What is Lyric Hearing?
Lyric is the first and only 100% invisible extended wear hearing device. Lyric is comfortably placed in the ear canal by a Lyric trained hearing professional and can be used 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for months at a time.*

Unlike many other hearing aids, Lyric is positioned completely inside the ear canal, and it uses the ear’s anatomy to provide natural sound quality.

What Makes Lyric Different?

100% INVISIBLE
  • Placed completely in the ear canal, Lyric is totally invisible.
  • Only the patient will know why he/she is hearing better.
EFFORTLESS HEARING, 24/7
  • Lyric can be worn during daily activities, such as exercising, showering, talking on the phone, and sleeping.
  • There are no batteries to change, no daily maintenance is needed, and no daily insertion or removal is required.
NATURAL PLACEMENT, NATURAL SOUND
  • Lyric delivers exceptional sound quality.
  • Lyric uses the outer ear to naturally direct sound into the ear canal without the need for multiple channels or settings.

How does Lyric Work?
Lyric is comfortably placed in the ear canal by a Lyric trained hearing professional during a routine office visit. No surgery or anesthesia is required.

Once placed, Lyric is 100% invisible, worn continuously for months at a time, and uses the ear’s natural anatomy to deliver exceptional sound quality.

Lyric is programmed for each patients’ specific hearing needs, and patients can adjust the volume of the device as needed.

Who is a good Candidate for Lyric?
Lyric is designed for people with mild to moderately-severe hearing loss. A Lyric trained hearing professional will assess hearing loss, ear size and shape, medical conditions, and lifestyle to determine if Lyric is the right choice. Approximately half of the people with hearing loss may be Lyric candidates.

Does Lyric require any surgery?
Lyric is NOT a surgically implanted device. Lyric is placed and programmed in the office by a Lyric trained hearing professional. No anesthesia is required. The sizing and fitting process for Lyric takes about one hour.

Can patients take the Lyric Hearing Device out?
Lyric can be self-removed if necessary. Patients are provided with a removal tool.

How long does the Lyric Hearing Device last?
Lyric may be worn for up to 120 days or until it ceases to function. Patients will need to return to their Lyric trained hearing professional’s office for 10-minute replacement visits. Individual replacement needs may vary, as device longevity is affected by usage patterns, environmental differences, and lifestyle.

What does Lyric feel like?
The exterior of Lyric is made of a soft material specifically designed to contour to the ear canal. This soft exterior helps make Lyric comfortable to wear. After an initial adjustment period (anywhere between 7 and 14 days), most patients no longer feel Lyric in their ear.

Can patients swim with Lyric?
Swimming and diving underwater are not recommended. However, Lyric is water resistant and showering can be done while wearing Lyric.

Is Lyric Safe?
The device has been safely used by hundreds of clinical research patients since 2001 and was first launched commercially in January 2007.

What does Lyric cost?
Lyric is sold on a subscription basis, meaning patients will purchase one year of Lyric hearing at a time. There is no need for repairs or battery replacement. Patients will be guaranteed to have the most advanced Lyric technology currently available, since they will be receiving new Lyric devices throughout the year. Patients can talk with their Lyric trained hearing professional to discuss exact pricing and payment options.

Does the initial evaluation and exam cost anything?
The Lyric trained hearing professional will determine the cost of patient visits. There will most often be a hearing evaluation performed by the audiologist and an ear exam performed by the ENT physician, both of which will likely have professional fees. The hearing professional can help patients determine if their insurance will cover these costs.

Can I use headsets or earbuds with Lyric?
External headphones and external hearing protection can be used. Do not use inserted headsets, earbuds, or earplugs, because they may dislodge the device.
(Standard iPod® earphones may be used)

Will an MRI, X-ray, or CT scan damage Lyric or place my ear at risk?
Lyric must be removed before you have an MRI. Unlike an MRI, an X-ray or CT scan will not damage or dislodge the device because a magnet is not used. However, you should inform the physician and/or technician about the Lyric device. If an X-ray or CT scan of the ear or head is needed, the device may need to be removed. Let your physician know that you are wearing Lyric if you are having surgery or a medical procedure of any kind.

Can I fly on a plane with Lyric?
Yes. It is safe to fly while wearing Lyric.

Will Lyric set off a metal detector?
No. Lyric’s metal components are too small to set off metal detectors.

Do I have to return to the Lyric trained hearing professional’s office each time I want a new device?
Patients will be required to return to their Lyric trained hearing professional’s office for 10-minute replacement visits.

Can I use my cell phone or home phone while wearing Lyric?
Yes, one of the benefits of Lyric’s placement is that it can be worn while talking on the cell phone or home phone. In fact, Lyric can be worn during your daily activities – such as sleeping, showering, exercising, and using headphones.

What type of hearing loss does Lyric address?
Lyric is designed to fit patients with a mild to moderately-severe hearing loss. Find out if Lyric is right for you by scheduling a hearing evaluation with your Lyric trained hearing professional.
