Lyric Comparison
Determining what type of hearing aid option is right for you is not an easy decision. There are many brands and styles of aids available with different benefits, features, and prices. The key to making the best decision for you involves a combination of factors including your specific type of hearing loss, your lifestyle and hearing requirements, and the advice of your hearing professional.
As you and your healthcare professional consider whether Lyric® is right for you, it is helpful to understand the difference between Lyric and traditional hearing aids. Traditional aids are daily wear devices that come in a variety of forms (behind the ear, in the canal, etc.). Lyric is an extended wear device that resides in the ear for months at a time. To illustrate the difference between these two categories of hearing aid options, we have provided the features of each below.

In addition to the physical differences between Lyric and Traditional Hearing Aids, most Lyric users have rated their overall satisfaction with Lyric more positively than their prior traditional hearing aids as shown in the table below, “Comparison to Traditional Hearing Aids.” Lyric is designed to have both its speaker and receiver located fully in the ear canal. This deep canal placement provides many sound quality benefits, such as reduced occlusion, feedback, and improved directionality. Lyric users surveyed preferred Lyric over their prior traditional hearing aids in the chart below as well. In addition, Lyric can be worn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for up to 4 months at a time (individual replacement needs may vary) . Unlike traditional hearing aids that are taken out each night or when a user gets in the shower, Lyric remains in the user’s ear for the life of the aid. Lyric users surveyed rated Lyric more positively when compared to their prior hearing aids for comfort as well. Many Lyric users also preferred Lyric to their prior traditional hearing aids when it came to telephone use and cosmetics. Lyric is truly providing many of the benefits patients desire that they may not have been getting from their prior hearing aids.
**Comparison to Traditional Hearing Aids data based on combined results of a telephone survey of 28 Lyric consumer patients and a survey of 19 Lyric clinical research patients. All 47 patients had previously worn traditional hearing aids of varying types and brands and had used Lyric for at least 30 days. Both surveys asked patients to rate various aspects of their device experience as compared to their previous traditional hearing aid based on five choices, ranging from “much worse” to “much better.” This data reflects the percentage of patients who rated Lyric “better” or “much better” than their previous traditional hearing aids for the given aspect.
