This week marks National Tinnitus Awareness Week, part of Better Speech and Hearing Month!
Even if you have never heard the term “tinnitus”, chances are that you have experienced it before. Tinnitus is the medical term for a sensation that people often describe as “ringing in the ears” although descriptions of “hissing”, “chirping”, “whistling” or “clicking” sounds are not unusual. Tinnitus is extremely common; one third of all adults experience tinnitus at some time in their lives and about 10-15% of adults have prolonged tinnitus that requires medical evaluation.*
